As the 2013 Rolex 24 at Daytona entered its 14th hour the #02 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates car, piloted by Jamie McMurray, was hot on the tail of race leader Ryan Hunter-Reay in the #10 VelocityWW Corvette DP.

McMurray’s team-mate, Memo Rojas, was holding 3rd position and was beginning to pull away from the #9 Action Express Racing Corvette DP of Burt Frisselle.

The eighth caution of the day was thrown five minutes into the hour for , debris, with the majority of cars pitting, shuffling positions across the board. McMurray led the field as the race went back racing with 10 hours and 34 minutes left on the clock.

The Ganassi 1-2 was restored exactly halfway through the hour as Juan-Pablo Montoya pulled off a fantastic move around the outside of Oliver Gavin‘s Spirit of Daytona Racing Corvette DP before the caution flag came out once again, this time for a stricken Ferrari 458 on the apron of NASCAR’s Turn 3.

At the return to racing, Montoya had McMurray firmly in his sights as he closed in on his team-mate and the lead of the race. As the hour drew to a close, McMurray was holding Montoya off, but by less than half a second.

The battle for the lead in the GT class was hotting up at the start of the hour, as Frank Biela‘s Audi R8 fought hard to protect his lead over the AIM Autosport Team FXDD with Ferrari  of Mark Wiklins, with Wilkins finally taking the lead just as the first caution flag of the hour was thrown.

Wilkins kept his lead during the caution period, restarting ahead of two of the Audi R8s, which remained unchanged throughout the rest of the hour.

The Napleton Racing Porsche still led the GX class by two laps.
