Hour four of the Rolex 24 at Daytona saw the temperatures drop, as a full moon rose above the Florida nightline, but the action heated up from the first couple of minutes. Memo Rojas in the #01 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates slipstreamed his way passed the #2 Starworks Motorsport of Sebastien Bourdais, who was fighting hard to keep his Ford-Riley under control, whilst under attack into the chicane where he lost the lead.
The #02 Ganassi pitted with Dario Franchitti handing over to Jamie McMurray, as Allan McNish got behind the wheel of the #2 Starworks Ford-Riley, losing and gaining positions as the hour progressed, but led going into the end of hour.
In the GT Class, Alessandro Pier Guidi, driving the #63 Scuderia Corse Michelotto Ferrari 458 Italia, made a couple of mistakes, but still kept his lead, even though he was overtaken by the #57 Stevenson Motorsports Camaro, which dropped back to 4th as the hour ended.
Magnus Racing made their way back up the class leaderboard, with DTM regular Edoardo Mortara driving the leading #24 Audi R8, rounding off the top three. The #31 Marsh Racing Corvette suffered a fluid leak in the pitlane, which looked to be fuel related, with a lot of cement dust needed to clear up the mess.
The GX Class saw the #70 Mazda 6 Sky Activ Diesel find the heavy going at Daytona too much, and it succumbed to a terminal cylinder problem, with the #00 Mazda also stopping on track later in the hour. It was still a 1-2-3 for Porsche, as it looked as though another of the Mazdas would possibly soon become another victim.
With the temperature lowering into the night, and the humidity rising, the teams were now heading around the fast and challenging track into the dark, with all needing to be focused at the task in hand…
