The lead for the Rolex 24 at Daytona was held by Juan-Pablo Montoya in the #01 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates BMW Riley at the start of the 6th hour, as team-mate Jamie McMurray found himself battling through the DP field following a stop and hold penalty at the end of the 5th hour.

The early stages of the hour saw Emannuel Anassis fighting with his #27 BTE Sport Ford Riley, making frequent trips to the infield in the wrong direction, shortly followed by a rather bizarre mistake from Byron Defoor in the #50 Highway to Help BMW Riley which found him sitting beneath a television camera tower.

There was a change of lead at the halfway stage of the hour as the #01 Ganassi BMW Riley pitted, handing the lead over to Antonio Garcia in the #90 Spirit of Daytona Racing Corvette DP, before Garcia’s pitstop handed the lead back a mere three minutes later.

As the hour drew to a close Montoya was holding station, with the #10 VelocityWW Corvette DP of Ryan Hunter-Reay a few seconds down the road in second place.

The GT class saw a close cross-make battle for second in class at the turn of the hour, as the #24 Audi Sport Customer Racing/AJR Audi, the #23 Alex Job Racing Porsche and the #69 AIM Autosport Team FXDD with Ferrari 458 were separated by just 1.5 seconds.

There was a slight vision issue down the back straight for the #45 Magnus Racing Porsche as Charles Putman‘s bonnet flew up onto the windscreen, leaving Putman blind until he made it back into the pitlane.

The latter part of the hour saw a Ferrari 1-2 as the #69 of Mark Wilkins battled closely with the #63 of Marco Frezza, eventually snatching the lead, with Damien Faulkner closing in on the Ferraris at the end of the hour.

Finally the GX Class saw the #16 Napleton Racing and #38 BGB Motorsports Porsche Caymans duelling for the class lead, whilst the #22 Bullet Racing Cayman dropped a further two laps off the leaders, ending the hour five laps down.
