Mark Blundell is set to return for a full season racing with the United Autosports team as they launch a title assault on the 2013 Avon Tyres British GT Championship with their McLaren MP4-12C GT3.
Blundell previously raced for the team in the 2011 Rolex 24 with Martin Brundle, Mark Patterson and Zak Brown. For 2013 he will be joined by Richard Meins, who he raced alongside in the 24 hours of Spa in 2012.
The Ex-F1 driver is looking forward to a return to the tracks that he raced on early in his motor sport career.
“Its great to be part of the United Autosports team for 2013. I learnt my craft as a junior driver on many tracks that the championship competes on so I am really looking forward to being back home.” said Blundell.
“What makes it even more special is that I will be able to race in front of family and friends and the many loyal race fans who have supported me over the years.
“The British series is getting stronger by the season, and I hope that we will be able to entertain the race fans. For me it’s about racing on home turf, what could be better. I can’t wait to get the season underway”.
Team owner and MD Richard Dean praised the efforts that Blundell has put in to secure the drive, “For me this announcement makes all the hard work over the closed season worthwhile, Mark has been pushing harder than any of the other drivers who were in the running for this seat to make this happen. This shows he has lost none of his competitive desire to race and win”.
Zak Brown, team owner added “It’s fantastic news that Mark is joining us for his first full season in British racing for many years. There is no question that he will continue to win as he has his whole career, and he will no doubt be a huge fan favourite”.
