Pete Smallwood will move up to compete in the Pro-Am2 category of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB in 2013 with Parr Motorsport.
The company director from Towcester raced for the team in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge last season where he finished a respectable sixth after a part season campaign, securing three podium finishes along the way.
Smallwood said: “I’m really excited to be stepping up again, this time to the Carrera Cup GB. It’s going to be a steep learning curve but we have a solid base to build on from the 2012 season. I’m delighted to have signed with Parr Motorsport again. They have done a great job with me so far and I can’t wait to start testing in the current generation 911 GT3 Cup car.”
Smallwood only began his racing career in 2010 when he moved in to the GT3 Cup Challenge after taking part in several track days but will now switch to the fastest one make series in the country.
Parr Motorsport team boss Paul Robe said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Pete in 2012. I’m happy he has made the decision to run in the Carrera Cup in 2013 and we are really looking forward to the season.”
“Pete will be the second driver that that we have taken from being a race novice and brought in to the Carrera Cup and it’s something we are very proud of. It’s not something that happens overnight: it has taken Pete nearly four years to get to this point but it is what the Porsche motor sport pyramid is all about. I believe Parr has the best environment to bring a driver on and raise their abilities to perform at Carrera Cup level.”
