Dan De Zille will compete in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB in 2013 after signing a deal to drive for current champions Redline Racing.
The 26 year old former single seater racer from Jersey began his career in Formula Ford in 2009 and spent three years in the series before moving to the Formula Renault Northern European Cup in 2012 after a planned switch to Formula Renault UK fell through when the championship was cancelled just a few weeks before the start of the season. He becomes Redline Racing’s second signing for 2013 after Dean Stoneman as he looks to forge a career in sports car and GT racing.
He said: “Racing wings and slicks in Europe was an amazing experience. But you’ve got to move on and the Porsche is something I can get my teeth into.”
De Zille reckons his knowledge of British circuits will stand him in good stead ahead of his move to the Carrera Cup. He said: “It is circuits I know and we should get some good racing. I’ve done several tests and I enjoyed being in the car. I want to build a career in sports and GT racing and the Carrera Cup takes you somewhere.”
De Zille will now continue a pre-season testing programme ahead of the 20-race Carrera Cup GB season, which starts at Brands Hatch on 30/31 March.
