Simon Green Joins G50 Class For Brands Opener

1 Mins read

Simon Green has become the latest driver to join the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup grid for the season opening rounds at Brands Hatch this weekend.

The deal comes with backing from Ginetta, with the marque supplying him a Ginetta G50 to be run by his Simon Green Motorsport outfit.

The opportunity has come about after Green had hired a Ginetta G55 from Ginetta at the end of last year as the team looked to evaluate their options for 2013. Poor weather on the day though meant he was unable to complete all the time allocated to him in the car, with Ginetta giving him this opportunity as payback.

Green and his team are using the weekend to evaluate the prospect of moving into the Supercup, with the team eyeing a move into the BTCC in the future.

“I want to thank Ginetta cars for all their help in getting us onto the grid, this is an amazing opportunity for Simon Green Motorsport and me personally,” said Green.

“After many years of racing including both saloon and single seaters, the opportunity to compete in and run a British built GT car is a massive opportunity. I’ve completed around 15-20 laps in a G55 at Donnington but never driven the G50, so my goals for the weekend are to make steady improvement, to complete the races and learn as much as I can about the cars.”

Green becomes the fourth G50 driver confirmed for Brands, joining Sean Huyton, Reece Sommerfield and Dan Norris-Jones in the class.
