Dean Stoneman and Michael Meadows took a pole position each for the opening round of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Brands Hatch.
In an incredibly close session it was Redline Racing’s Stoneman who set the ultimate pace with a lap time of 46.139 seconds to edge out Samsung Smart Motorsport’s Meadows by just 0.039 seconds.
Stoneman said: “That’s not bad, we’ve still got some set up work to do and I’ve not done a practice start yet. The more running I do the better it is going to be.”
Meadows recorded the best second fastest lap time with a 46.216 second effort enough to put him the best part of a tenth clear of Stoneman on the gird for race two.
Speaking to theCheckeredFlag.co.uk Meadows said: “I was happy with my performance. We made a mistake, probably, we didn’t get on the second set of tyres, saving them for the race but it looks like the race is going to be wet possibly now. Stoneman put in a good lap at the end, so one each is probably fair enough I guess.”
Rory Butcher was third fastest with his best lap time and within a tenth of Stoneman’s pole lap but will start fourth for the second race.
Dan Lloyd managed a fourth and a fifth while Jonas Gelzinis will start fifth for the first race and third in the second.
Richard Kent and Dan De Zille rounded out the professional drivers with a pair of sixths and sevenths respectively.
In Pro-Am1 George Brewster and Victor Jiminez set the pace, with a pole and second each. Yucel Ozbek secured two third place starts.
In Pro-Am2 sole competitor Peter Smallwood impressed as he lapped within a tenth of a second of the tail end Pro-Am1 runners in his very first Carrera Cup qualifying session.
