European Le Mans Series front runner James Walker will drive an AMG Mercedes SLS GT3 for Fortec Motorsports at the opening round of the 2013 Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Oulton Park.
The race marks a return for Walker to Fortec, having scored International success with in both F3 and World Series by Renault with the team. Walker will also have fond memories of Oulton Park, having wrapped up his Junior Formula Ford title at the circuit.
“British GT looks like it’s going to have one of its most competitive years in its history, so to be part of that is fantastic” said Walker. “Richard Dutton at Fortec had literally just collected the car and asked me to shake it down at Oulton with a further run at Rockingham. Despite near freezing temperatures we were still able to get some productive running. Richard has put together a great team including experienced engineer Trevor Forster to run the car; it was an easy decision to make.”
The British GT Championship is set to have at least nine manufacturers competing in 2013, including a number of factory backed teams.
“It’s obviously going to be a massive learning curve but we will be out to show what we can do.” continued Walker. “If we can have a trouble free weekend, we can demonstrate the pace we know the car is capable of.”
Walker finished runner up in the ELMS for the past two years and still plans on maintaining his challenge on the International circuit.
“I am in discussion with teams for the European Le Mans Series, ALMS as well as racing in Asia” Walker explained. “It’s shaping up to be a very busy year.”
