Total Control Racing claimed its second and third wins of the 2013 Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup during the second weekend of the season at Donington Park.
Reigning champion Carl Breeze put his title defence firmly on track with victories in the first two races in Leicestershire, to add to his opening weekend win at Brands Hatch.
The former BTCC racer led both races from lights to flag, though unfortunately his weekend went sour in the final race, when his driveshaft failed on his way from the assembly area before the race.
“Carl did a fantastic job as always this weekend, he was under massive pressure in both races but he dealt with it superbly”, said team principal Lee Brookes. “We couldn’t believe the driveshaft failure before race three, we only fitted a brand new one on Saturday night as we thought the other one was getting a bit old. The new one only did one race before it failed so we’re gutted for Carl.”
Breeze’s team-mates Mark Davies and Jamie Orton also had relatively mixed weekends. After frustrating qualifying sessions for both, Davies was able to pick up fifth and seventh place finishes before a disappointing race three retirement, while Orton collected a pair of ninth’s and a fifth.
“Mark and Jamie had a mixed weekend to be honest”, commented Brookes. “They both had the pace, they showed that in the second race, but a couple of incidents just cost them. Apart from Mark’s DNF in the third race though, they both scored strongly which is the important thing.”
