Stoneman And Meadows Take A Pole Position Each At Donington

1 Mins read

Dean Stoneman and Michael Meadows claimed a pole position apiece in qualifying for tomorrow’s two Porsche Carrera Cup GB races at Donington Park.

Championship leader Stoneman set the fastest lap of the session with a time of 1m07.195s to edge out Meadows by a mere 0.014s. Jonas Gelzinis was third fastest, just over a tenth of a second shy of Stoneman’s pace.

Speaking to theCheckeredFlag.co.uk Stoneman said: “It was not expected, I never got the best out of the first set of tyres.”

Meadows will start the second race from pole position after setting the best second fastest time. He will be joined on the front row by Gelzinis while Stoneman will start from third.

Speaking to theCheckeredFlag.co.uk Meadows said: “We had a bit of a scrappy session; we had a problem with the ECU and a flat spotted tyre. We had to come in and scrap those tyres and went out on the second set and had a not bad run then decided we were struggling so we put the old tyres back on and got pole and second. I’m fairly confident of our pace in the races we’ve been really quick all weekend.”

Dan Lloyd will start both races from fourth while Rory Butcher was fifth fastest but will start the first race from eleventh after being handed a six place grid penalty for colliding with Meadows in the second race at Brands Hatch three weeks ago.

Butcher’s penalty means that Pro-Am1 pole sitter Victor Jiminez will start the first race fifth overall. Karl Leonard was second in class but has the second Samsung Smart Motorsport car of Richard Kent between himself and Jiminez. For the second race the pair will start alongside each other on the fourth row with Leonard on Pro-Am1 pole.

In Pro-Am2 Will Goff secured a double category pole position ahead of Peter Smallwood.

The first race of the day begins at 10:00am with the second being shown live on ITV4 at 15:42.
