Total Control Racing and Carl Breeze made the perfect start to their Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup title defence with victory during the opening weekend at Brands Hatch, with Jamie Orton and Mark Davies also securing podium finishes.
A late deal for Breeze saw a title defence with Wednesbury-based TCR and despite no pre-season testing, Breeze was able to challenge from the off. A storming start to race one saw him jump from fourth on the grid into the lead on the opening lap, an advantage he never relinquished.
The Kings Lynn-based racer followed this up with a top six finish in round two, although retirement after a spin in race three was a bitter blow.
For team-mate Orton, the season couldn’t have started better with a spectacular maiden category pole position in qualifying. After losing his lead to Breeze in the first race, Orton slipped back to a third place fnish, a result he repeated in race two, before contact sent him into the gravel and retirement in race three.
Davies meanwhile, embarking on his first full season as a TCR driver, was an uncharacteristic ninth in race one, but he worked his way up to fifth in race two. Unlike his team-mates, Davies went on to enjoy his best result of the weekend in race three, benefitting from their retirements to take third place.
“We definitely showed we’re strong this weekend,” said team principal Lee Brookes. “Jamie putting it on pole was superb and Carl’s win in the first race was a great start for us. Even with everything that happened with the various incidents, it’s been a good weekend and to have Carl, Jamie and Mark on the podium at the first event of the year shows what we can do.”
