Defending champion Michael Meadows claimed a double pole position for rounds five and six of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Thruxton on Saturday.
The Samsung Smart Motorsport driver continued his good form from last time out at Donington Park, where he won both races, to dominate qualifying and head the grid for the first race by two tenths and race two by half a second.
Meadows’ lap times of 1m14.303s and 1m14.354s were enough for him to take his pole tally to four from a possible six.
He said: “That’s exactly what we wanted. We did minimal laps to conserve the tyres for the races. The team has worked really hard to get the car spot on.”
Dan Lloyd, a winner at Thruxton 12 months ago, was Meadows’ closest challenger in qualifying and secured two second position starting slots for tomorrow’s races, his best qualifying performance so far this season.
Championship leader Dean Stoneman managed a pair of third positions at his home circuit.
Jonas Gelzinis will start fourth for the two races but his qualifying session ended prematurely when he went off at the exit of Allard and hit the barriers.
Rory Butcher will start fifth for the two races while Richard Kent will line up alongside him on row three.
In Pro-Am1 Dan De Zille and Victor Jiminez shared the poles with Yucel Ozbek third in the category.
Sunday’s races begin at 11:10 and 16:25 with the latter being shown live on ITV4.
