TT 2013: Reeves And Sayle Make Winning Start

2 Mins read

Tim Reeves took his first ever victory at the Isle of Man TT after he and Dan Sayle were the class of the field in the opening Sidecar race on Saturday. While Reeves was opening his account, Sayle was making his own piece of history with his eighth win, drawing him level with Rick Long as the most successful passenger in TT history.

Ben and Tom Birchall were quickest up to speed as they pulled out a five second lead at Ramsey on the opening lap but as they came up to overtake John Holden and Andy Winkle on the road, they tagged the bank at Kate’s Cottage and suffered a left rear puncture, forcing the pair to pull off at Creg ny Baa.

After an opening lap at 113.575mph, Reeves and Sayle enjoyed a ten second lead over top qualifiers Dave Molyneux and Patrick Farrance and that lead would only grow as they reeled in the no.1 on the road. The source of interest on the last lap would be the fight for second between Molyneux and Conrad Harrison, partnered by Mike Aylott in the no.5 Shelbourne Honda. The battle would go down to the wire with Harrison’s 113.630mph lap jumping them up to second by 0.538s.

John Holden and Andy Winkle rode a lonely race to fourth ahead of Douglas Wright and Martin Hull with Gary Bryan and Jamie Winn completing the top six. Gary and Dan Knight clocked their first 110mph+ lap on their way to seventh while in another piece of history, Estelle Leblond became the first female sidecar driver to top 100mph over a lap as she and Sebastian Lavorel finished 29th.
