Max Coates will make a return to the commentary box this weekend at Brands Hatch, as he lines up alongside regular ITV commentator Richard John Neil to commentate on some of the BTCC support race action for ITV4.

The Yorkshireman will be making his third appearance in the ITV Sport commentary box, having debuted at Knockhill in 2012 commentating on the Ginetta GT Supercup, before returning two weeks ago at Silverstone to commentate on the live Formula Renault and Formula Ford action.

This weekend, the David Mason London Ambassador will be commentating on the Renault UK Clio Cup and Formula Ford races.

“I am delighted that ITV have asked me back,” said Coates. “I really enjoy working beside Richard and I’ve learnt so much already.  I recently had a chat with Larry Carter who commentates and works in a similar role on the British Superbike Weekends and I’m looking forward to putting his tips into action.

“There are not many people that get to be a commentator and not many of them that get to work within the BTCC events.  It’s a real honour to be asked back for a third time by ITV.  For me it’s the second best thing I can be doing on a race weekend right behind driving the cars.”

Coates will hope to swap the microphone back for a race suit next season, with a full campaign in the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup his primary target.

“I’m working hard on gaining the necessary funds for next season and hope to have some news on that in the near future,” he concluded. “I’m keeping my options open, but I want to be in the BTCC paddock again next season in whatever form that may take, though my first choice would be the Supercup.”
