4. Kubica and Massa battle wheel-to-wheel in the wet – 2007

Another memorable moment from the 2007 race came courtesy of BMW’s Robert Kubica and Ferrari’s Felipe Massa. Despite all the carnage that was unfolding around them, the two drivers were still running competitively, but almost came close to not finishing at all.

In the closing laps, the pair engaged in a thrilling wheel-to-wheel battle. While all the attention at the front was on the leader, Lewis Hamilton, Kubica and Massa were putting on a brilliant display of car control in atrocious conditions, and came close to contact several times.

From the way they were battling, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was something that the championship depended on, but results show it was in fact over sixth place and neither were in the hunt for the title.

In the end, Felipe Massa prevailed in the tussle that went down to the last corner of the last lap, taking three points. The two were split by just two tenths of a second at the line.
