Morten Dons Eyeing Up British GT Drive

1 Mins read

Morten Dons, winner of the Swedish Ginetta GT5 Challenge completed his first British GT test with Ginetta as he aims to step up to the GT4 category for 2014.

The 24-year-old Dane won the Swedish Ginetta GT5 Challenge with Magic Racing in a Gulf-liveried Ginetta G40, with the British GT test coming as a reward for his championship success.

“Winning the Swedish championship was the first major step for me,” said Dons. “It was my first season outside the Danish borders, and now is the right time to go further. I have no need to sit down and wait for things to happen.

“It was very easy to drive, actually a bit like my old Formula Ford,” he continued, speaking of the test session, where he drove a Ginetta G55, which is supposedly close to next year’s GT4 spec. “I really enjoyed the huge amount of grip and the enormous brakes. Of course, I would have liked some extra hours of driving, but everything taken into consideration, I am very happy. I got a few positive phrases with me from the Ginetta staff as well, so I guess it wasn’t that bad!”

Dons believes that British GT is the next logical step on the ladder towards the 24 Hours of Le Mans and to a career as a full-time professional racing driver.

“I will be taking some big steps in the next three years, and it will require almost all of my time and skills to get there,” he said. “My ultimate goal is to win at Le Mans, and that should be possible if I keep up the hard work and keep my spirit high – and of course find a few good sponsors…”
