9 – Coca Cola 600 Camera Collapse

The longest race on the NASCAR calendar came to an unexpected halt in May owing to one of the more bizzare reasons in recent memory. One of the cables used to provide the overhead shots of the front straight had failed, falling to the track and damaging a number of cars – including race leader Kyle Busch – and injuring ten fans, all of whom were treated and released by the conclusion of the race. NASCAR’s response was also praised by the drivers – allowing teams 15 minutes to fix their damaged cars. Overall the race was only stopped for less than 30 minutes and continued as normal, while the use of the overhead camera was suspended indefinitely.
