The 21st Hour of the Rolex 24 at Daytona was a literal tail of two halves after a spinning Porsche brought out a full course caution.
There were few incidents of note mainly in the GT Le Mans class where the #55 BMW Team RLL Z4 had to go into the garages after suffering a front suspension failure and the #93 SRT Viper refused to fire after a pitstop leading to two crews trying to bump start it down the pit lane.
Another problem was faced by the #9 Action Express Daytona Prototype which had complaints of shifting problems throughout the stint and could not take the fight to Jordan Taylor in the Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette.
The first of two caution periods came about because of the #18 Snow Racing Porsche clipping a passing PC car going into turn two and ended up beached at the end of pit lane.
The 20 minute caution allowed GTLM leader Richard Lietz in the #911 Porsche take a breather from the flat out sprint which had developed, with Jon Bennett leading PC and Townsend Bell leading GTD for Level 5.
The second caution fell as the 20th hour transitioned into the 21st with the #87 BAR1 PC car getting clipped by the Muscle Milk ORECA on the restart which saw the tyre carcass rip off and rest itself on the racing line going through the Bus Stop chicane.
