Declan Jones will return for the second season in the GT4 class of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship. However, after finishing as runner-up in class in 2013 with Century Motorsport he will do so with a new team and a new car.
The 18-year-old will share a BMW M3 GT4 run by ABG Motorsport. Though a regular sight in the GT4 classes of several European championships the British series has seldom featured the GT4 version of the M3, though a pair of the cars won by the Dutch Ekris team were part of the record-breaking grid that started the three hour race at Silverstone last May.
Unlike the car ABG Motorsport are no strangers to the British GT4 class, having taken Marcus Clutton and Peter Belshaw to the class title in 2011 aboard a KTM X-Bow.
“I really enjoyed last season. I learned so much and I cannot wait to make the most of all that experience this year,” said Declan, who will carry on with his existing sponsors. “I am really happy with how things are coming together. It is going to be great to continue in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship and to work with ABG Motorsport. I’m really looking forward to trying out the BMW GT4 and can’t wait to do some tests in it.”
Jones took three class wins in 2013 with Century Motorsport, the first two as he swept the Oulton Park weekend alongside Zoe Wenham, while his third win came when sharing the car with team boss Nathan Freke in the finale race of the season at Donington Park.
The team are yet to decide who will partner Jones in the car for the season, with plans not only for an entry into British GT, but also the new European GT4 series.
