Flying Lizard Show Promising Pace At Roar Before The 24

1 Mins read

Flying Lizard Motorsports completed a successful three-day test at the Roar Before the 24 at Daytona, lapping faster than the fastest Audi times of 2013.

The two #35 and #45 Audi R8 LMS cars ran for eight sessions over the three days, setting the fastest time of the GT Daytona class – 1:47.981 seconds – across the weekend. The team also set the fastest car in class for three of the eight sessions, as well as being the fastest Audi in an additional three sessions.

“The test has been very useful for me in terms of understanding the car as well as learning the track,” said Alessandro Latif, driver of the #35 car alongside Seth Nieman, Dion von Moltke and Filipe Albuquerque. “We have also been working towards finding the best race setup and I think we are at a good point now. Our pace seems strong and the tire wear feels very manageable. My co-drivers have been a big help in getting me integrated into the team and up to speed, so I am looking forward to the 24.”

The #45 car was driven by Nelson Canache, Jr., Spencer Pumpelly and Markus Winkelhock. The trio will be joined by Tim Pappas for the Rolex 24 at Daytona race.

“With the technical support of Audi we started and have continued to have great setups on the cars,” said Chief Engineer Steve Conover. We have worked steadily through this test event to prepare for race conditions and while the absolute pace has been excellent, the speed of the car on used tires has also been very good.”
