Watson Targets Title On Supercup Return

1 Mins read

Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup front-runner Andrew Watson has announced his return to the series in 2014, with the Irishman targeting a championship challenge with Douglas Motorsport.

Watson joined the Supercup last season, showing impressive pace from the off. After carding a front-row start on the opening weekend at Brands Hatch, the 19 year old made his podium debut in Round Seven at Thruxton.

Two further podium finishes over the remainder of the campaign ensured the former Ginetta Junior race-winner finished seventh overall in the standings. With that experience, combined with the new GT4 G55 and a strong pre-season testing plan, Watson has his sights set on winning this year’s title.

“I gained a huge amount of experience in my rookie season in the Supercup and am looking forward to being able to put that to good use when the 2014 season gets underway at Brands Hatch,” said Watson.

“The team and I have big ambitions for this year, but I am feeling confident about what we can achieve this season and am looking forward to getting behind the wheel for the first race.”

2014 will be Watson’s fourth year working with Douglas Motorsport, who recently announced the addition of reigning Ginetta Junior champion Harry Woodhead to their Supercup line-up.

“We’re delighted to have Andrew back for the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup this year,”
added team principal Wayne Douglas. “Right from round one last year he was very impressive and I have no doubt we can win this year. I firmly believe I’ve now got one of the strongest driver pairings on the grid with Andrew and Harry and we’re really looking forward to the opening round at Brands Hatch.”
