Croft Circuit will be the destination for an overdose of thrilling throwbacks, as the north east venue hosts the Nostalgia Weekend on 2/3 August for a fifth consecutive year.
The two-day event will inject a blend of historic racing machinery from the golden eras, with such icons as the Hillman Imp and Lotus Cortina among the on-track machinery in action which will be accompanied during the event by live music, fashion displays, World War Two encampments and air shows.
Croft Autodrome hosted its first motor racing event on 3 August, 1964, in the guise of the Daily Mirror Trophy Meeting for touring cars, GTs, sportscars, single-seaters and motorcycle racing. Half a century later, those memories will be rekindled as 2/3 August will see the north east host the Nostalgia Weekend at the same popular circuit.
“This is a big year for Croft Autodrome, and to be able to celebrate our 50thbirthday on the very same weekend as the first race meeting back in 1964 makes it even more special,” said circuit manager, Mike Cantelo.
“The Nostalgia Weekend is a fitting event to mark this momentous milestone, and will harken back to those early days when Croft Autodrome was still in its motor racing infancy. It will appeal to fans of all ages across the generations, and we hope many of them will similarly attend some of our other high-profile meetings over the course of the campaign. Our spectators have a lot to look forward to in 2014.”
The ever popular Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship makes its mandatory appearance again on 28/29 June along with the raft of support packages it brings in tow, which will see seven BTCC champions grace the grid of the sport’s latest season, having visited Croft since 1997.
Croft will also be the destination for visits from BARC, BRSCC, North East Motor Cycle Club, Darlington & District Motor Club, Roger Albert Clark Rally and BTRDA Rallycross events during the 2014 motorsport season, making it a busy year of racing entertainment for the venue.
