Proton Competition Confirm 2014 FIA WEC Drivers

Proton Competition, the only customer Porsche team entering the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship have finalised their lineup for their LMGTE-AM Porsche 911 RSR.

Khaled Al Qubaisi has been announced alongside Austrian Porsche Junior Klaus Bachler and team boss Christian Ried. He will become the first driver from United Arab Emirates to contest in the FIA WEC.

Qubaisi has already tasted success in sportscar racing including class wins in the 2012 and 2013 24 Hours of Dubai races and a GT3 win in the Gulf 12 Hours last year. He also took part in the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans with JMW in the LMGTE Pro class.

“It’s no secret, I’m already really excited about our partnership for WEC in 2014 , which will start in a month with the 6- hour race at Silverstone. I am proud and happy to be able to represent the United Arab Emirates in this major championship” said Qubaisi.

Bachler makes the move up from the ELMS series which he competed with Proton in 2013 and is already excited about the season ahead.  “I’m really looking forward to my new role in the WEC. For me, a dream come true as I will also celebrate my debut at Le Mans with the new RSR this year.”

Team boss Christian Ried added “I am very happy that this project has come about and am really looking forward to the start of the season . Together with Khaled Al Qubaisi, Klaus Bachler and the new Porsche 911 RSR I am convinced that we will achieve good results.”
