Massot Confident After Strong Thruxton Test

1 Mins read

Pepe Massot heads into the next two meetings of the 2014 Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup in confident mood following a positive test outing at Thruxton last week.

The test was the official pre-event outing for the teams and drivers ahead of the third weekend of the 2014 season at the high-speed Hampshire venue on May 3rd/4th.

Spaniard Massot, who is aiming to bounce back after a tough opening weekend to the season at Brands Hatch, was a superb fourth fastest in the opening session of the day on old rubber.

He then went on to slice a second off his previous best on new tyres in the afternoon to end the day second overall, despite carrying 70 litres of extra fuel to try and combat a fuel surge problem.

“In the first session I had very old tyres unlike the guys ahead and we were still P4, even with the fuel surge problems, so that was OK,” said Massot. “In session two I missed the window for my quickest lap as I had to back-off because of another car, plus we had the extra weight of the added fuel to try and stop the fuel surge.

“So, being second quickest was a really good effort. Overall I was really happy with the car and the handling, the team did a great job as always with the set-up.”

Before Thruxton though, Massot heads to Donington Park this weekend for the second meeting of the year, with the Leicestershire venue being the scene of his last Supercup win during the corresponding meeting twelve months ago.

The JHR Developments driver ended pre-event testing yesterday (17th April) fastest by over three tenths of a second, and is aiming to convert that pace into race wins during the Easter meeting.

“Donington is a very good circuit, I like it a lot, the car should be good there and I’m hoping to fight for pole position in qualifying and then try to take all three wins,” added the 18 year old.
