Robertson ‘Surprised’ By Race-Winning Debut

1 Mins read

Charlie Robertson was left surprised and delighted after a race-winning start to his Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup career at Brands Hatch at the weekend.

The 2012 Ginetta Junior champion made his BTCC package return with HHC Motorsport, and kicked things off with a strong drive from fifth to third in the opening race, securing himself a first Supercup podium.

While a poor getaway off the line in race two dropped him to fourth on the run to the first corner, it proved to be a lucky omen as a tangle between two cars ahead allowed him to grab second.

After running there for a number of laps, Robertson capitalised on a mistake from the leader to snatch the lead, going on to pull away and win only his second Supercup race by almost six seconds.

Round three didn’t go to plan for the Investigo-backed racer though, with a podium challenge going begging following contact at mid-distance. After a pitstop to replace a punctured wheel, Robertson set the fastest lap of the race en-route to an eleventh place finish, a result that leaves him second in the Supercup standings.

“I’ve been a little bit surprised with how competitive and quick we have been on our first weekend in the championship,” said Robertson. “The team is new to the GT4 Supercup, like me, and we’re still learning about the car so what we’ve achieved this weekend is really encouraging. I’m so happy to have won a race on the first weekend, it’s a fantastic start.”
