1 Mins read

Simon Andrews is in a critical condition following a big accident at the Metropole in Saturday’s Superstock race at the North West 200.

Andrews was taken from the scene of the accident to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast by helicopter.

The Worcestershire rider was riding for the Penz13.com BMW team in the Superstock race and was part of a large group of riders near the top of the field. He has a history of bad injuries, including accidents at Thruxton, the Isle of Man TT and most recently suffering serious injuries at last year’s Le Mans 24 Hours race.

The incident was the second serious incident of the meeting, with Frenchman Franck Petricola crashing heavily during a practice session. Petricola is currently being treated for his injuries at Royal Victoria Hospital.
