Fresh off her victory in Auto GP at Imola, Michela Cerutti has joined TrulliGP and will partner ex-Formula One driver Jarno Trulli at his new team.
Trulli recently gained entry to the Formula E series thanks to the help of Lord Drayson and his Drayson Racing team. While Drayson Technologies continue to support and innovate for the team, Trulli took over the name and the first driver seat.
Cerutti not only becomes the fourteenth driver announced on the inaugural grid, but also becomes the second female driver alongside Katherine Legge of Amlin Aguri.
Not only does Cerutti double the female contingent, but also fulfills Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag‘s wishes to expand the female representation in the series.
Speaking after Legge’s announcement, Agag said: “It’s fantastic to have our first female driver too and we very much hope she is the first of many to join the championship.”
With two female drivers now confirmed, it remains to be seen whether there will be further female additions to the lineup, but Trulli is convinced that he has chosen a talented driver to team up with.
“Michela is a very talented driver with a natural skill,” said Trulli. “I was impressed by her recent results considering the very limited time she has spent in single-seaters. I’m extremely happy to share my long Formula 1 experience with Michela to make our team successful. I’m convinced that Michela is an up and coming star, the one to watch for this season and the future.”
The recent Auto GP winner, Cerutti said: “I’m very pleased to join TrulliGP and I am very honoured to be part of the FIA Formula E Championship. I’m now looking forward to testing the car to start this new challenge.”
Trulli will line up alongside Cerutti at next week’s testing at Donington Park before heading to Beijing for the season opener.
