GTE Leader Griffin Aiming to Extend Championship Lead at Paul Ricard

1 Mins read

2013 European Le Mans Series champion Matt Griffin is aiming to extend his LMGTE championship lead this weekend at Paul Ricard, with the Irishman once again aiming to run well at the French track after winning the last round at Imola.

Griffin, who leads the point’s standings by three points alongside team mate Duncan Cameron, will once again team up Cameron and Michele Rugalo in the in the #55 AF Corse-ran Ferrari, with the Ferrari ace coming into the event after taking a win and a 2nd place last weekend in the International GT Open races at Spa.

“I usually go very well around Paul Ricard, last year I managed to set pole position, take fastest lap and won the race,” said Griffin. “A similar result this year would be nice, but I am fully aware that the competition is fierce. We will need to be at the top of our game from the start of free practice.

“We have a slender lead in the championship; this could prove a very decisive race as any mistake could all but kill any championship hopes. I’m feeling confident though as I have really fast team mates and I know my team AF Corse will give us the car to do the job.”

The 2014 European Le Man Series 4 Hours of Paul Ricard takes place this Sunday, with the start time set at 1300 CET.
