Robertson Aiming To Maintain Lead At Silverstone

1 Mins read

Charlie Robertson is aiming for a consistent and competitive outing at Silverstone this weekend as he looks to maintain his Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup championship lead in the penultimate outing of the season.

The HHC Motorsport ace heads into the meeting at the home of British motorsport with a 48 point advantage over Carl Breeze at the head of the Supercup standings.

The 17 year old naturally heads into the weekend wanting to add to his seven race wins so far this year, but does so aware that one bad result could have a major impact on his title hopes.

“We’re in a great position in the championship, but we’re not complacent at all and know we need to keep working really hard as it doesn’t take much for a big points lead to disappear,” said the championship leader.

“We’ll be trying as hard as ever to win at Silverstone and be as consistent as we can.”

One of key ingredients to Robertson’s success so far this season has been his record-breaking six pole positions in eight race meetings.

With the Silverstone national circuit renowned for close racing, Robertson appreciates that adding another to his tally this weekend could be vital.

“I’m sure we’ll be quick this weekend and in the battle for pole position in qualifying,” he commented.

“If we can start on the front row, that will be a lot of the hard work done but the competition this year is very tough and you can’t take anything for granted.”

While Robertson can wrap up the championship at Silverstone if he wins both races and Breeze hits trouble, the former Ginetta Junior champion is only focusing on preserving his lead ahead of the Brand Hatch finale in October.

The aim is to at least maintain the sort of lead we have now – if we can do that then I’ll be very happy,” he concluded.
