9) Jann Mardenborough
Pre-season, no one imagined that gamer-turned-racer Jann Mardenborough would end up as the highest points scorer for the Arden International team, but after a season where his performance and confidence grew, that was exactly what happened.
The Briton had moved up from a year in European Formula 3, but started the year with four non-points scoring races in Spain and Austria. However it was at the Red Bull Ring in Austria where he first showed his speed, although while running sixth he threw it all away with a crash into the barriers at turn seven.
His first points came in front of his home fans at Silverstone, but the following round at Hockenheim, it all came together. He clinched eighth place in race one to give him pole position for race two, and he converted that into his maiden victory, leading home four other Britons for a 1-2-3-4-5 finish.
He secured a podium finish in Hungary and another double-points finish in Russia to end the year with 77 points and ninth place in the championship, although his races in season closer at Abu Dhabi were rather disappointing, culminating in a final race retirement with a puncture while battling to get into the points.
The route to the top of motorsport has been thrown a curveball when it comes to Jann Mardenborough. There is undeniably a good talent here, and it will be interesting where he goes next. He still has World Endurance Championship and Le Mans links with Nissan, but has also tested Formula Renault 3.5 Series machinery since the end of the year. It might be good for him to remain in GP3 for another year, but wherever he ends up, it might be just worth keeping an eye on him.
