2) Dean Stoneman
After making his single-seater return in the finale of the 2013 GP3 Series season, Dean Stoneman continued the revival of his career with a very strong, multiple-race winning 2014 season, despite being forced to switch from Marussia Manor Racing to Koiranen GP during the year.
He started the season in fine form, winning for Marussia in race two at the Circuit de Catalunya on the opening weekend, but a couple of disappointing weekends at the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone saw him fall down the points standings. He scored good points at both Hockenheim and the Hungaroring, before taking his second victory of the season at Spa-Francorchamps and his third at the following round at Monza.
Stoneman switched from Marussia to Koiranen ahead of the races in Russia after his original team pulled out of the series citing financial issues, and was immediately a race winner once more after dominating the opener at Sochi from pole position. He even managed to climb from eighth place in race two to finish just behind race winner Patric Niederhauser in race two.
His failure to take pole position in Abu Dhabi handed Alex Lynn the title, but he did not let that phase him as he took his fifth win of the season, the most of anyone in the series. He was eliminated in the final race of the year but had done enough to finish second in the championship ahead of Marvin Kirchhofer.
After fighting back to be a contender for the championship after winning his fight against cancer that almost cost him more than his career, Dean Stoneman is back to being one of the top young drivers in the world right now. The Briton has had tests in both the Formula Renault 3.5 Series and DTM Series at the end of 2014, and could and should be in one of those series or in the GP2 Series in 2015.
