Kawashima Graduates To Supercup With Century

1 Mins read

Osamu Kawashima will step up to the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup full-time this season, staying with the Century Motorsport team with whom he competed in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge in 2014.

Kawashima is no stranger to the Supercup, having made his UK racing debut in the series in the final rounds of 2013, taking a best finish of thirteenth in a Century Ginetta G55.

The Japanese racer switched to the GT5 Challenge last year to gain more experience on UK circuits, improving throughout the campaign with regular top twenty finishes in his G40.

“I’m excited to race in the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup with Century Motorsport. I’m very happy to work with Nathan and Century again,” said Kawashima.

“This year is a very important year for me, I think it’ll be a hard season, but I like to challenge myself so that I’ll fight using what I learned from last year’s Ginetta GT5 Challenge.”

Kawashima will be eligible for the AM class in the Supercup next season, and is Century’s second signing for the year alongside returning race-winner Tom Oliphant.

“We are thrilled that Osamu is returning to Century Motorsport this year. He’s a great guy with a real passion for motorsport and enjoys every minute of his weekend’s racing,” added Century Team Principal Nathan Freke.

“The step up to the Supercup will be a big one, but their new Gentleman class format is perfect for someone like Osamu to build up his experience gradually and have something to aim for each weekend.”
