Spencer Pigot lays foundations for 2015 Indy Lights season

1 Mins read

2014 Pro Mazda champion Spencer Pigot is preparing to take to the track at Palm Beach and get his first taste of Indy Lights machinery before his full season in the category begins.

The Rising Star Racing backed driver has tested Indy Lights cars in the past, but with Dallara building a new specification car for this year, Pigot will this week have his first taste of the AER engined IL15.

The two day open test at Palm Beach International Raceway will see the American continue the positive relationship with Juncos Racing which took him to a 10 point victory in the Pro Mazda title race. It also marks another rung up the Mazda Road to Indy Ladder for him having recorded to runners up spots in the USF2000 Championship.

“I’m really excited to get to PBIR and drive the Mazda powered IL-15 for the first time,” said Pigot. “We’ve been  working on the car for a while now in the shop and now, we finally get to drive it! Hopefully we can get a lot of laps in and start to develop the car for the season. It’s been a while since I last drove a car, so I can’t wait for the test.”

He continued: “Everything has been coming together well and it’s been great to spend time in the Juncos shop as the team puts everything together. We fired the Mazda engine [built by AER] up the other day and it was pretty exciting. I think this is an awesome package. We want to start getting familiar with the car and start developing as much as we can. We’ve got a lot of track time so we just want to make the most of this first test—I’m just really excited about it.”

For Pigot his first competitive crack at the Indy Lights Championship will be at the double header opening round at St Petersburg on March 28th & 29th.
