Pritchard takes victory on BHRC opener

1 Mins read

It was a good weekend for Welshman Jason Pritchard as he took victory on the opening round of the 2015 Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship, the Red Kite Stages.

Pritchard, who is navigated by Phil Clarke, had to overcome treacherous conditions as he navigated his Ford MK2 Escort through the stages.

The icy conditions made the tests very slippery and Pritchard found the opening test incredibly difficult. The road surface deteriorated to the point where the second stage had to be cancelled because it was unsafe to drive on.

But the Welshman managed to overcome the ice and after setting joint fastest time on the final stage took victory by 0.4 seconds over Richard Hill.

“I’m delighted with the result and to start the season with a victory.” said Pritchard “It was a really hard test for all the cars involved due to the icy conditions and my preparation for Sunday was slightly rushed but now feels worth it.

“I’m incredibly proud to finish in top spot – especially against some exceptional drivers. My aim was to make sure I finished the rally and to start the season with some points on the board, so to finish 1st was a great feeling.”

The next round of the BHRC will take place Mid Wales Stages on the 1st of March.
