McLaren Young Drivers To Share Von Ryan 650S In British GT

1 Mins read

McLaren GT Young Driver pairing Andrew Watson and Ross Wylie will share a Von Ryan Racing McLaren 650s GT3 in the 2015 Avon Tyres British GT Championship.

Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup race-winner Watson and reigning British GT4 champion Wylie were named in January as the first two drivers to join McLaren’s new young driver development programme.

After recently conducting a number of development tests in McLaren’s 650S, it has been confirmed they will share one of the new GT3 machines in British GT this year.

Andrew Watson: “I am really excited to race in the British GT Championship. It will be something completely different for me compared to contesting Ginetta’s in recent years.

“The drive I have with McLaren GT and competing with Von Ryan Racing this year is huge. The level off professionalism I’ve seen already is amazing and I will learn a lot. I drove the 650S GT3 for the first time last month and it is an amazing piece of kit.”

“Working closely with a team-mate for the first time in my career in the same car is something I am looking forward to. Ross and I are already working well together.”

Ross Wylie: “Returning to the British GT Championship but now in the GT3 class will be very exciting. After 2014, I have knowledge of all of the race tracks on the schedule and that should be beneficial.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to be working with Dave Ryan and the rest of the Von Ryan Racing team, and sharing the McLaren with new co-driver Andrew [Watson] will be cool.

“We’re both competing in the GT3 category for the first time but like me, Andrew is hungry for success, has good race craft and also knows the tracks we will be racing at this season so we should be in a good position.”

Wylie and Watson will drive one of two McLaren 650s’ run by Von Ryan Racing this year, with Salih Yoluc and Euan Hankey confirmed to be sharing the other.
