Breeze: “It’s Shown How Quickly The Championship Can Swing”

1 Mins read

Despite enjoying his best ever start to a Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup season with eight podium finishes in the first nine races of the year, Carl Breeze says his rise to the top of the points standings at Thruxton is proof of just how quickly things can change in the championship.

Breeze headed into the third weekend of the season fifteen points adrift of his HHC Motorsport team-mate Jamie Orton, however a double victory for the 2012 champion and a retirement for Orton has swung the pendulum Breeze’s way by 34 points.

Knowing how it could turn against him just as fast, Breeze is wary of not showing any signs of complacency, and wants to extend his points lead next time out at Oulton Park on 6/7 June.

“It goes to show how quickly the championship can swing, it’s all changed by nearly fifty points this weekend,” Breeze told TCF.

“It’s been a fantastic weekend, but it’s a warning to me as well not to rest on my laurels, as evidenced this weekend things can change very quickly in this championship.

“We’ve got to go to Oulton and try to put it on pole position, win both races and keep edging away into the distance if we can.”

For Breeze, his start to 2015 is a stark contrast to his exploits twelve months ago, when he was over 100 points shy of his current total – in fact this is the earliest in the season Breeze has ever held the championship lead throughout his Supercup run.

“We talked earlier about how many points plus I have this year compared to last, and it’s over a weekend’s worth of points extra in the pocket,” Breeze added.

“I’m usually a bit like the football team I support Arsenal, notoriously getting the season off to a slow start before finishing it as the highest points scorer in the last few months. So to get a quick start this year and build an early points foundation is fantastic.

“I’m running into some circuits now which are really strong for me, confidence is high, the car feels great and the form’s good as well, so I can’t wait.”
