Greaves Motorsport Finish 4th at Imola

1 Mins read

2015 4 Hours of Silverstone winners Greaves Motorsport were unable to repeat their success for the second round of the 2015 European Le Mans Series, and finished the 4 Hours of Imola in fourth position in the #41 Gibson 015S Nissan.

With Bjorn Wirdheim starting the race from P3, the car ran well until Wirdheim pitted during the safety car period. Unfortunately, any time saved by pitting at this stage didn’t happen as he pitted at the same time as the safety car came in, putting the team at an immediate disadvantage.

Gary Hirsch completed a triple stint next, before Jon Lancaster took over the car for the final hour. He finished the race in fourth, whilst trying to make up for more time lost when the safety car came out for a second time.

“We saw today another closely contested race illustrating just how competitive the European Le Mans Series is in 2015,” commented Team Principal Tim Greaves. Our drivers all did a great job but I must single out Gary for his stunning set of stints today in the most difficult of conditions. The Safety Car interventions worked against us and we are sure we would have been further up on the steps of the podium had things worked out differently, you could describe it as a travesty. However these things tend to balance out over a season. We are still very much in contention for race wins and this is the perfect springboard for Les 24 Heures du Mans next month.”

The next race for Greaves Motorsport will be on June 13/14, where Hirsch, Wirdheim and Lancaster will contend the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
