Team Falken Tire to Leave USCC

1 Mins read

At the end of the year, Team Falken Tire will end its Tudor United SportsCar Championship interests, after deciding to explore other motorsport options. Team Falken Tire are the only Porsche customer team in the GT Le Mans class, and race with their Porsche 911 RSR.

“The Team Falken Tire program has been a championship-level performer, both on and off the racetrack, for the past several years in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón previously,” said Scott Atherton, President of the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA).

“Its victories at Petit Le Mans each of the past two years – among other victories – prove the caliber of the team. Falken Tire consistently has used the team, car and their involvement in the TUDOR Championship in its mainstream advertising and the success they have had against the best of the best GT race teams and tire manufacturers in the world is truly impressive.

“Unfortunately, Falken Tire has made a business decision to discontinue its TUDOR Championship program following the 2015 season. They will be sorely missed by their many fans – and by all of us. As always, IMSA will continue to offer an open platform for multiple tire manufacturers in the GT Le Mans class.”

The team entered the American Le Mans Series in 2009, with a full-time program commencing a year later. Its first two wins were at Mid-Ohio and Baltimore in 2011. Since then, they had another Baltimore win in 2012, and have won the Petit Le Mans in 2013 and 2014.

In 2014, they became the first customer team to use the Porsche 911 RSR in North America. The team will continue the 2015 season as normal, and will be looking for a third win in succession at Road Atlanta’s Petit Le Mans in October.

The next race for Team Falken Tire will be Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen, NY on June 28.
