Antonio Giovinazzi made a great start from second on the grid to take the lead of the qualifying race at the Masters of Formula 3 event at Zandvoort, then moved away from the chasing pack to take a comfortable win.
Despite making the twelve-lap race look easy, Jagonya Ayam with Carlin driver Giovinazzi, who sits second in the standings in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship with two weekends of the season remaining, felt it was far from simple, but hopes to replicate the result in the hour-long main race on Sunday.
“A win is never easy,” said Giovinazzi. “I focussed on a good start but Markus [Pommer] made a good start too so it was a fight with him into the first corner.
“After that my pace was good, so thanks to the Carlin guys for giving me a good car. I was able to drive the same lap every lap and not stress the tyres.
“I did a purple sector two on my last lap, the car felt so constant. We aim to do the same again tomorrow.”
