Burns Impresses With Rockingham Podium Double

1 Mins read

Will Burns’ resurgence in the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup has continued with another podium double at Rockingham, extending his run to five top three finishes in a row.

Following a tough run of results in the mid-season, Burns has bounced back in style, starting with a podium hat-trick at Knockhill last month.

The 25 year old qualified third at Rockingham, holding that position from start to finish in race one, before passing championship leader Tom Oliphant for second in race two.

“I carried across the momentum from Knockhill into this weekend and just tried to build on it. I know I’ve had the speed in the car in recent meetings and I got to show that, particularly in race two,” Burns told TCF.

“I knew I should keep trying to make a move as Tom [Oliphant] was struggling with his tyres, but he drove a good race and was defending well, so I was pleased to get past.”

With a top four championship finish on the cards, Burns now heads into the final five races of the year hoping to continue his podium streak and take a long-awaited first Supercup victory.

“I’m still trying to get that maiden win, but I definitely know it’s going to come. They’re going to be focusing on the championship and points now, so I’ve got the opportunity to take advantage and surprise them,” he commented.

“Fighting for the title isn’t an issue for me now, so I’m able to focus solely now on getting more podium finishes, a first win and just gaining momentum into hopefully another year in the Supercup next season.”

Next up for Burns and the rest of the Supercup grid is the visit to Silverstone at the end of the month, with the HHC Motorsport ace confident he can do well at the ‘Home of British Motorsport’.

He concluded: “I think we can be strong at Silverstone. The key will be qualifying up the front, hopefully in the top two. I haven’t got a podium there yet, but I’ll be sure to make that the case this time around.”
