Breeze Snatches Last Gasp Brands Hatch Supercup Pole

1 Mins read

Carl Breeze snatched pole position from his Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup title rival Tom Oliphant with his final lap of the qualifying session at the Brands Hatch GP season finale.

Oliphant topped the timesheets throughout the twenty minute session, setting a best time of 1m 30.183s, but saw his challenge come to an end seven minutes from the end when a mechanical issue left him sliding into the Clearways gravel trap.

After a short red flag stoppage, the action resumed without Oliphant and Breeze took full advantage, benefitting from a tow on team-mate Will Burns across the line to take his second pole position of the season by eight hundredths of a second.

Michael Caine made a strong return to action with the third fastest time, his second top three qualifying performance of the campaign so far, with Burns taking fourth ahead of rapid Rob Boston Racing pair Jordan Stilp and Tom Wrigley, the top six split by 0.645s.

A relatively subdued session for Jamie Orton saw him only manage seventh around a circuit he won at in 2013, while a superb start to his second Supercup appearance for Rob Wheldon saw him take eighth ahead of regular campaigners Ollie Jackson and Bradley Smith.

Mike Robinson was the fastest of the debutants in twelfth overall, with Matthew Cowley producing a strong run to seventeenth having missed the majority of Friday’s practice sessions after rolling his G55 at Clearways in FP1.

Colin White set the AM class pace in eighteenth overall, the CWS Racing ace looking set to take the class title in race one with his chief title rival Osamu Kawashima down in sixth in class behind Connaire Finn, Ade Barwick, Steve Tandy and Fraser Robertson.
