GT Open Outing For British GT Ace Watson

1 Mins read

Avon Tyres British GT Championship star Andrew Watson is competing in the International GT Open Series season finale this weekend at Catalunya.

Watson will compete in a Teo Martin Motorsports McLaren 650S GT3 alongside former FIA World Touring Car Championship racer Fernando Monje.

The Irishman previously raced in the championship at Spa-Francorchamps in early September, taking a pole position and a top five race finish alongside factory driver Rob Bell.

“I am absolutely delighted to be given the opportunity to go back and race with the Teo Martin Motorsports team in the #59 650S GT3,” said Watson.

“I learnt a huge amount during my time with them in Spa, and am looking forward to the challenges that Barcelona will bring. It is a new track for me, and a new teammate but I have the right team around me to go for success next weekend.”

A graduate of the Ginetta BTCC support championships, Watson made his British GT debut this season as a member of the new-for-2015 McLaren GT Young Driver Programme.

Competing in a Von Ryan Racing McLaren 650S, Watson and his team-mate Ross Wylie took six top ten finishes including a best finish of sixth at Snetterton.

The Catalunya race weekend will see Watson compete in a 70 minute race on Saturday and then a 60 minute race on Sunday.
