Dan Hegarty joins RTR Motorcycles for 2016 campaign

1 Mins read

Dan Hegarty has confirmed that he will ride for RTR Motorcycles, backed by Downshift Limited, at the 2016 Isle of Man TT.

The team are yet to confirm their machinery for next year but are committed to racing in the RST Superbike, RL360 Superstock, Supersport and PokerStars Senor TT Races at next year’s TT

Hegarty will also ride for the team at selected meetings at Oliver’s Mount, including the Scarborough Gold Cup.

The Nottingham racer made his TT debut in 2011 but it was at this year’s event where he put in some consistent performances at the Mountain Course.

Hegarty produced a new highest placed finish of 13th in the opening superbike race, followed by top 20 finishes in the  superstock and Senior TT events.

He also improved his fastest lap around the TT Course to 126.5mph on the last lap of the Senior TT.

Commentating on his 2016 plans, Hegarty said: “I am glad of the way I have progressed over my years competing at the TT. There’s so much to take in when you’re learning the TT course but next year will be my sixth year on the Isle of Man and every year I get more confident round there.

“It’s great to have the deal with RTR Motorcycles/Downshift Ltd sorted well ahead of the new season which gives me loads of time to keep working hard towards my goals.”

Hegarty also made his Oliver’s Mount debut this season in the Spring Cup National Road Races, where he finished as the leading newcomer – including a third place in the second Junior A Race.

He finished the 2015 season at the Scarborough Gold Cup, piloting his Downshift Motorsport ZX10R Kawasaki to a fourth place finish in the Steve Henshaw International Gold Cup meeting.

Hegarty also took the runners-up spot in the Senior Race, where he beat the likes of John McGuinness and Ivan Lintin.
