The 2016 FIA European Rally Championship is just a month away from commencing but the series organisers have announced a number of small changes to three of the championship rounds following the publication of the provisional calendar in early December.
Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés will run between March 10-12 commencing one day earlier than originally planed while Rally Rzeszów is due to take place from 4-6 August rather than 5-7 August. Also the Cyprus Rally, which will host the final round of the season, intends to pull the event back to October 7-9 as opposed to its original date of September 23-25 so that it runs in tandem with the FIA Middle East Championship round. This decision is subject to FIA approval.
“The calendar adjustments will help the organisers of the rallies in question to put on these world-class ERC events that we savour with greater ease.” said ERC Co-ordinator Jean-Baptiste Ley, “Plans to run the Cyprus Rally in October will help to ensure the participation of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship for the third consecutive year, which will, in turn, raise the spectacle and numbers of participants.”
The opening round of the 2016 European Rally Championship takes place on the snow filed forests of Rally Liepaja in Latvia.
