Mac Returns to Complete Formula Racing Lineup

1 Mins read

European Le Mans Series GTE champion Mikkel Mac will rejoin Formula Racing for the 2016 European Le Mans Series and 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The 23 year old helped the Danish team to its first ELMS title last year, winning races at the Red Bull Ring and Paul Ricard.

Gold-rated Mac will join Danish compatriots Johnny Laursen and Christina Nielsen for the championship defence, which begins at Silverstone on April 16.

“I am proud that Formula Racing has once again offered me a place on the team,” said Mac. “The team means a lot to me and has almost become my family. I have won two world championships in the Maserati Trofeo with Formula Racing, and in the fall we took the European Le Mans Series championship at the second attempt.”

“Christina comes with some great results from the United States, and Johnny is among the fastest bronze riders right now, so I am looking forward to the cooperation. I have no doubt that we have a winning car,” he added.

Formula Racing will contest the 2016 season with the same Ferrari 458 Italia GT2 that it used last year. Victory in the 2015 championship guaranteed qualification to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, although the team decided against a move up to the FIA World Endurance Championship, instead focusing on its ELMS competition.
