Stalwart Somerfield Targets Supercup Top Three In 2016

1 Mins read

Reece Somerfield will return to the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup this season and has set his sights firmly on a top three championship finish

The 27 year old enters his fifth full season in the Supercup on the back of his most successful campaign yet in 2015, which featured a pair of breakthrough podium finishes.

The privateer entrant stunned the paddock at the Brands Hatch season opener by taking victory in the reverse-grid third race, his first win in the championship.

He backed it up at Croft in June with a second place finish, which he added ten other top six finishes to as he secured seventh in the final championship standings.

Somerfield will be one of the most experienced drivers on the grid this season, entering the season with 102 Supercup race starts to his name, experience he hopes will bode him well for more success.

“You really can’t get better than the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup when it comes to competitive racing. It’s fantastic to be a part of the BTCC support series, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the paddock,” said Somerfield.

“Last season we had some strong results and just scratched the surface of what we can do, there’s no doubt that in 2016, I will be looking for consistent podiums and aiming to finish inside the championship top three.”
