Rising GT and single-seater star Alexander Sims has been announced alongside Phillipp Eng in a Rowe Racing BMW M6 GT3 for a campaign in both the Blancpain Sprint and Endurance Series.
Sims, who has been a regular podium visitor in his two seasons in the British GT Championship when he raced for Ecurie Ecosse, will be taking part in his first full-season European campaign in what is his third season as a BMW factory driver.
He joins Porsche SuperCup champion Phillipp Eng, who has moved over to the top level of GT3 racing in order to continue his sportscar career, in what should be a very competitive entry.
“It is absolutely fantastic to have Alexander and Philipp on board for this year’s Blancpain GT Series,” said team principal Hans-Peter Naundorf. “Both drivers are top level professionals with successful records and vital experience in sportscar racing. I am sure they will be a big help to get our new BMW M6 GT3 cars up to competitiveness. Our team is more than excited to be able to work with such talented and skilled drivers.”
Eng is also looking forward to the upcoming campaign: ”I am proud to be a part of the BMW family as well as to race in the best GT championships with Rowe Racing. The combination of my driver colleagues, the team and the BMW M6 GT3 gives me confidence for a successful season.”
Sims is also looking forward to the Blancpain campaign, which he’ll weave in with a half-season campaign racing a Barwell Lamborghini with Liam Griffin. He said: “This will be my third year with BMW which I am really pleased about and to be elevated to a full European program with a team like Rowe Racing is a great opportunity for me. I’ve experienced some fantastic racing thanks to BMW and I expect this year to be the highlight so far with a jam packed program. I’m really looking forward to the exciting challenges ahead and cannot wait to bring the all new BMW M6 GT3 through its first season of racing.”
