Late Supercup Return For Triple Ginetta Champion Davies

1 Mins read

Former Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup race-winner Mark Davies is making a return to the championship this season with leading team Total Control Racing.

On the eve of the opening rounds of the year at Brands Hatch this weekend, Davies has confirmed a late deal to compete in the BTCC support series for the first time since 2013.

Davies finished sixth overall in the championship that season with TCR, with a single victory at Snetterton backed up by four other podium finishes.

The year prior, Davies had dominated the final running of the G50 class in the series with fourteen victories, before taking a pair of outright wins on his G55 debut in the Brands Hatch season finale.

The Yorkshire-based racer has won titles in three models of Ginetta, his first success in the GT5 Challenge coming in the older G20 in 2009, before winning the same title in 2011 in the current G40.

In recent seasons, Davies has coupled some guest outings in the GT5 Challenge with historic racing, winning Class C of the HSCC Historic Touring Car Championship last year in a Lotus Cortina.

“It’s great to be back with the Ginetta family and my good friends at TCR,” said Davies, who joins Callum Pointon in the Wednesbury-based outfit’s line-up this season.

“I’ve taken the G20, G40 and G50 single-make titles, so the aim for 2016 is to add the premier G55 class championship to that list.

“I don’t doubt the opening round will be tough as I haven’t been able to test the current car, but we will be aiming to hit the ground running.”
