During an announcement at Silverstone on Friday evening, Onroak Automotive have revealed that United Autosports will be the sole UK agent for the French manufacturer.
United Autosports, who are making their European Le Mans Series debut this weekend with a pair of Ligier LMP3 entries, will be responsible in the UK for both LMP3 and CN sports-prototypes.
The Leeds base of United Autosports will now also be where the UK branch of Onroak’s agency reside, with prospective LMP3 and CN sports-prototype customers still able to enjoy the same low-cost machines as they would buying direct from the Magny Cours base, while also offering trackside support and a parts service on top.
“We have formed a great relationship with Onroak Automotive over the months we have worked with them on our ELMS project,” revealed Team Owner and Managing Director of United Autosports, Richard Dean.
“Their attention to detail and customer service is second to none and we believe this deal will work for everyone involved. We want to bring prototype, specifically LMP3, racing into the UK so we are excited to be able to offer a more convenient way for UK-based teams to enter this great new category.”
Dean added during the announcement: “The LMP3 thing has just been a huge success. “It’s really taken off what feels overnight, and watching the series start here, twelve months on, twenty cars on the grid, and to be part of that with a great driver line-up and hopefully a great chance to put on a good show tomorrow, we’re really pleased to be part of it.
“What we’re going to talk about tonight is the continued growth of LMP3. We see a really good opportunity for exciting, affordable motorsport in a cool looking car that looks every bit like an LMP1 car when you see it out on track, its got safety standards of an LMP1 car [and at] an amazing, affordable price.
“The price of these cars what Onroak have delivered with the LMP3 car is quite phenomenal, and I believe there are 40-41 cars out there so its a real credit to Onroak with the Ligier that’s produced here.
“Onroak want to grow, [and] we’ve got an opportunity in the UK. We’ve got Phil Boland here from the GT Cup championship, who are proposing a prototype series in the UK; there’s going to be a prototype series that’s going to get off the ground in the UK next year.”
